Hi Everyone. Let's Talk.
While retargeting and remarketing have similar goals, sometimes the terms are used interchangeably, it is important to realize that they are different.
Firstly let's get our definitions straight:
Retargeting:
"Retargeting is a form of online targeted advertising by which online advertising is targeted to consumers based on their previous internet behavior" (Wikipedia). Retargeting aims to serve ads to potential customers based on their past internet behavior. This past internet behavior can include which web pages they visited, how long they spent on each page, and which links they clicked on.
Remarketing:
"Remarketing refers to engaging audiences who have already interacted with your brand, to encourage them to take a desired action that may interest them" (Amazon). Have you ever received weekly emails from a company you previously shopped from? Or have you ever been asked to join a mailing list? These are both examples of remarketing. This is because they serve advertisements to their current consumers.
In trying to become more successful, remarketing, and retargeting, are both amazing tools that work best when used harmoniously instead of independently. As important as gaining new customers, ensuring your current ones are satisfied should be valued.
Thanks for reading!
